Live Folk Music That Brings Everyone Together
There’s something about a ceilidh that makes a wedding unforgettable. It’s not just the music, though the sound of live folk tunes always lifts the mood. It’s the way it brings people together, gets them laughing, dancing, and making memories – even if they’ve never met before.
At Hilltop Ceilidh Band, we’ve been performing ceilidhs for weddings since 2016. We’re based in Tonbridge, Kent, but travel all over the UK and beyond for couples who want more than just background music. Our ceilidhs are lively, warm, inclusive, and completely guest-friendly – ideal for weddings where connection matters.
What is a Ceilidh & Why is it Perfect for Weddings?
A ceilidh (pronounced “kay-lee”) is a traditional folk dance with live music and a caller who guides everyone through each step. Guests don’t need to know the dances or even consider themselves dancers. The point is to have fun, not get it perfect.
A Ceilidh Works Beautifully At Weddings Because:
- It gets guests of all ages and backgrounds up and moving
- It’s a brilliant icebreaker for groups who don’t know each other
- It creates moments people genuinely remember
- It avoids the awkwardness that sometimes comes with formal evening receptions
- It works with any venue size, from garden marquees to grand halls

Where We Perform – Kent & Throughout the UK
While we’re proud to be part of the Kent wedding scene, we regularly travel across the UK for weddings in London, the Cotswolds, the Lake District, Wales, and Scotland. We’ve also performed for destination weddings in France and Spain. If you’re planning something a little further afield, we’re happy to discuss travel and logistics.
We’re a popular choice at venues like The Night Yard in Canterbury, Cooling Castle Barn near Rochester, and The Oak Barn at Frame Farm – but we’re just as comfortable in remote village halls or under the stars in a field.

How a Ceilidh Fits Into Your Wedding Day
Every wedding is different, and we’re happy to work around your timings. Some couples want a ceilidh straight after dinner to get the party started, while others save it for later in the evening as an alternative to a DJ set.
A typical wedding performance might look like this:
- Arrival and setup before guests are in the room
- An optional live first dance, or a track of your choice played through our system
- Two ceilidh sets with a short break in between
- DJ music to follow, if you’ve booked that with us
- Smooth transitions and coordination with your venue or planner
If you want to combine live and recorded music, our wedding packages include options like our Disco Add-On, which keeps the energy up once the ceilidh finishes.
Reviews From Couples Who Danced With Us
“Hilltop Ceilidh played at our wedding in Sussex and were brilliant. They ably guided our 150 chaotic guests through the Ceilidh and everyone had a brilliant time. Just perfect to get everyone on the dancefloor and having fun. We then used their sound system to play our own music for the disco afterwards, which worked really well. Would definitely recommend!” – Lucy & Andy
“We had hilltop ceilidh band for our wedding 21st September everything was perfect could not fault them a great bunch of people would definitely recommend them” – Christine Walker
